Every 8 March, International Women’s Day (IWD) celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. In line with its 2023 theme, IWD also calls to action the acceleration of women’s equality by embracing equity. Supporting this movement, Frasers Property partnered the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO) to do good for the community.
Collective collection efforts of pre-loved items: we donated seven boxes of pre-loved items to SCWO’s New2U Thrift Shop.
One of the community-focused initiatives included activating our properties to run a pre-loved goods donation drive for employees where items will be sold at SCWO’s New2U Thrift Shop. Over one week, employees in Singapore were encouraged to drop off their pre-loved items in good condition at the customer service counters at Alexandra Point, Northpoint City and The Centrepoint.
Sales from the thrift shop would go towards SCWO’s initiatives and services including Star Shelter, which provides a safe space for women and children survivors of domestic violence. In total, seven boxes comprising clothes, bags, toys and more were donated to the thrift shop.
Volunteers worked hand-in-hand to categorise and sort through donated items, as well as maintain the upkeep of the thrift shop.
In addition, 35 employee volunteers contributed 100 volunteer hours to sort and categorise donated items, and maintain the upkeep of SCWO’s New2U Thrift Shop over three sessions. All hands were on deck as employees sorted through piles of donation to check they were fit for sale, and tidied up the thrift shop to ensure everything was in order to welcome customers.
On top of the support rendered to SCWO, we pledged a corporate donation of S$10,000, to support women in vulnerable families, under the Singapore Red Cross Family Life Aid programme. We have an ongoing and longstanding partnership with the Red Cross societies to help uplift local communities in Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. We received the United for Humanity Award in 2021 for our contributions to Singapore Red Cross, particularly with supporting its local and international response to the pandemic.
