MELBOURNE, 31 MARCH 2020
Frasers Property Australia has appointed multi-award-winning national architectural firm Rothelowman to spearhead the design of the next apartment stage at Burwood Brickworks, in Melbourne’s east.
Rothelowman is working on plans for 229 apartments across two buildings at Burwood Brickworks, which will be the last apartments built within the mixed-use community, located just 19km from Melbourne’s CBD.
Sarah Bloom, General Manager Residential Victoria, Frasers Property Australia says Rothelowman’s track record in designing progressive homes and places that enhance their surroundings aligns with the vision for Burwood Brickworks.
“The cohesive, sustainable and connected community we’re creating at Burwood Brickworks demands an intelligent design response that recognises the unique circumstances and opportunity to redefine the built environment in the local context. Rothelowman has the proven expertise, track record and shared vision to achieve this outcome,” Ms Bloom says.
“The four apartment buildings we have previously offered to the market have been exceptionally popular with buyers and we are anticipating a similar response with this next stage when it is released later this year.”
The design Rothelowman is working on for the homes has been driven by a desire to recapture the confidence evident in the golden periods of Melbourne’s development, says Chris Hayton, Rothelowman Principal.
“The design team has been inspired in part by the city’s grand Victorian terraces, the architecture is restrained and elegant in its composition. The building will provide an engaging and vibrant place for residents to live in, enjoy and share with family and friends.”
“The generous apartments, with their strong connection to the surrounding parklands, are planned around a series of carefully curated lobbies, communal rooms and amenity spaces. By allowing individuals choice in the way in which these spaces can be occupied the shared spaces have been thoughtfully designed to foster engagement with neighbours and friends.”
Burwood Brickworks is the second project Rothelowman has collaborated on with Frasers Property, following the riverfront terrace homes in the award-winning Hamilton Reach community in Queensland.
The new apartment buildings at Burwood Brickworks will be centrally positioned within the development and orientated towards the village green, with immediate access to the new Burwood Brickworks shopping centre and adjoining Urban Plaza. They will include a collection of premium north-facing apartments that overlook the village green and boast views of the Dandenongs.
Burwood Brickworks is a mixed-use community currently under construction. Upon completion it will include a mix of 750 freestanding and semi-detached terrace homes and apartments, 2.5 hectares of open space and parklands, community facilities and two large public spaces connected to an urban plaza adjoining the Burwood Brickworks shopping centre.
Apartment sales at Burwood Brickworks bucked the downward property trend in 2019. All but two of 267 apartments across the first four apartment buildings released have sold, two years ahead of sales forecasts. The final 229 apartments are expected to generate a similar buzz amongst buyers.
Frasers Property expects the new apartment precinct will be ready for residents to move into by 2023.
