Changi City Point, Hougang Mall, Tampines 1, The Centrepoint, Tiong Bahru Plaza and White Sands attained Elite rating at this year’s SEC Eco Office certification exercise, with another four malls attaining Champion rating.
In early 2021, Frasers Property Group announced its goal to be a net-zero carbon corporation by 2050. With Frasers Property Retail being one of the leading suburban mall operators in Singapore, we need to play our part in reducing our carbon footprint as buildings are large emitters of carbon. This includes green-certifying 80 percent of our owned and managed assets by 2024 through improving energy, water, and waste efficiency.
Beyond that, our sustainability efforts also extend to educating and empowering our staff through activation campaigns and training programmes, so they too can lead greener lifestyles.
SEC Eco Office Certification
Earlier this year, Frasers Property Retail’s Centre Management Offices (CMOs) took part in the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) Eco Office certification. The certification guides offices in implementing effective environmentally friendly practices by increasing eco-consciousness among staff, adopting the practice of responsible consumption and procurement, and helping organisations manage waste by reducing usage of paper, water and electricity.
In this year’s assessment, six of our properties received Elite rating, the highest attainable rating, with another four properties receiving Champion rating1.
The SEC Eco Office assessment framework comprises a comprehensive scoring system and verification process which evaluates both ‘hardware’ and ‘software’ features. Assessments were based on six key criteria: Energy management, water management, resource and waste management, interior environment, sustainability management and office staff behaviour.
Onwards Along Our Green Journey
Our performance in this year’s SEC Eco Office certification is testament to Frasers Property Retail's efforts in minimising its impact on climate change. This is another step in our journey to achieving net-zero carbon, further affirming our commitment to sustainability. That we have been able to balance both business operations and environmental sustainability is also an endorsement to the invaluable support of our staff who have not only embraced our education and empowerment efforts, but have also been proactive in pushing ahead our green-initiatives. We hope this certification also sends a message of reassurance to our shoppers, that they are transacting and socialising in malls that care for the community and environment.
As one of the largest suburban retail mall owners in Singapore, Frasers Property Retail has a vital role to play in mitigating the effects of climate change. This will require a sustained and collective effort from all stakeholders ranging from our leaders to our employees, customers, suppliers and the many partners we collaborate with and serve. We will continue to put in place the frameworks and investments needed to achieve our target of net-zero carbon by 2050, and leave a positive impact on both our communities and the environment.
