Azman Said has brought about many positive changes since joining Frasers Property Singapore. The Senior Building Supervisor at Alexandra Point recently implemented solar panels around the property to promote the building’s green efficiency among other changes.
Back to basics
“I took the opportunity to get to know my team better on my first day in the job. We got along well from the get-go and I found out more about their roles. Most of them have been here much longer than me and I was open to learn about the culture and systems here.”
It was a pleasant surprise for Azman, when his suggestions to his manager, Patrick Mok, the Building Manager of Alexandra Point was well received. Azman hails from a hospitality background for over 22 years, before deciding to make a career switch in the commercial building industry.
The support system in the organisation has also empowered him to contribute his ideas openly.

In early 2016, Azman suggested switching the lightings outside Alexandra Point to LED lights with solar panels to reduce energy usage. Now, solar panels line the walkway outside the property. Changes are also underway on the rooftop, and on the surrounding perimeter of Alexandra Point at Level 1.
The lighting at the lift lobby, staircases and multi-story carpark of Alexandra Point has also been replaced with LED lights and motion sensors.
On the ball
The building management team works in shifts daily to ensure the smooth running of the property.
“The welfare of my team is my top priority. My men are here every day, even on weekends and public holidays. They are the superstars here.”
Camaraderie came easy for the team, so much so that they formed a futsal team to compete in inter-property futsal competition within Frasers Property Singapore.
Alexandra Technopark recently completed its asset enhancement initiative and introduced new amenities such as futsal courts and exercise areas.
Azman and his futsal team
“The team and I train at the futsal court every Friday! It’s a good way for us to engage in some form of exercise for the week, and it’s convenient for us, as it is just a stone’s throw away from our office. We are also gearing up for some upcoming tournaments in August and September!”
Team spirit
An efficient team requires balancing the strength and weaknesses of every team member, and Azman does just that.
“Having a great team around me was another motivating factor for me when I first started. Everyone is open to helping and teaching one another. There is no need to feel shy about needing some guidance, which I think promotes a positive working environment.”
One quality Azman highlighted as being essential for someone in his role is “to be prepared and open to changes”. He believes that as a small team, everyone should help each other out, and not limit their activities to their job scope only. He also stresses the importance of humility, because affirming that nobody’s perfect and that it’s okay to ask for help.
While Azman’s job deals with the practical details of the building, his biggest contribution is forging connections with the people around him. Besides changing the physical environment of Alexandra Point, he also built a healthy ecosystem for people to work, play and be themselves.
