As developers, we learn, connect, and fit into our surrounding communities, becoming the hub and gathering point for them. As a symbolic milestone to signal that Frasers Centrepoint Singapore places our customers and communities at the forefront of our work, Northpoint City recently organised a collaborative “Paint Party” over two weekends in September.
Northpoint City’s mural wall will depict the community’s overall vision of Yishun, using the contributed painted panels from participants of the Paint Party.
Almost 400 individuals and families, comprising 145 teams, creatively expressed what “Happiness” means to them by painting on large, square canvas panels that will compose Northpoint City’s community mural wall. On the whole, the assembled panels form a collage portraying Yishun, and when one looks up close, individual community-contributed art pieces can be seen.
Northpoint City’s community mural wall will be a larger than life representation of the community spirit. It harnesses the value of family, friends and neighbours coming together to create a meaningful contribution to a communal space they will all share. This is part of our on going effort to foster a stronger community bond and personal attachment between Northpoint City, Yishun’s residents and visitors to Yishun.
It is intended that through collaborations with Nee Soon Central Community Club and The Little Arts Academy, this mural wall will be the platform for year round continued dynamic engagement for all.
The Paint Party is an example of how Frasers Centrepoint Singapore weaves in communities and makes sure their voices are heard and seen in the spaces that they live, work, and play in. We may be developers and owners of the space but the true owners are our customers.
Artist, Francis Theo, was busy making his rounds during the event to offer participants some useful tips.
The event is being done in partnership with artist Francis Theo. Francis said, “We saw many three-generation families join us this weekend and this is exactly what we hope to encourage with this community-enhancing activity. Each of the community-contributed artworks has a unique position in Northpoint City’s large mural wall, just like how every individual has a special place in this community.”
A three-generation family gathered at the Paint Party to bring 6-year-old Sharifah’s idea of happiness to life.
Sharifah’s interest in art encouraged her mother, Ms Hayati, and grandparents to travel from Sengkang to participate in this event together at Northpoint City.
Sharifah shared that she was happy her family helped her complete her flower garden painting at the Paint Party. Her mother, Ms Hayati, said, “For Sharifah, ‘Happiness’ is when she gets to paint because that’s how she expresses her feelings. Sharifah took part in the mosaic painting event at Waterway Point previously and, to this day, each time we pass by her artwork there, she would point at it and proudly say ‘Mama, that’s mine!’. I am sure she will be equally proud if her painting is put up in Northpoint City.”
Ms Hayati also remarked that she felt inclusive activities like the Paint Party brings the community together and gives them a sense of fulfillment and involvement.
Part of Northpoint City’s mural wall will be refreshed every quarter of the year by featuring new artworks from the community!
The completed mural will be unveiled to the public during the soft opening of Northpoint City at the end of the year.
Northpoint City has always aimed to offer more than a shopping centre experience by unifying quality retail, entertainment and dining offerings. Most importantly, it is a choice destination for friends and family to spend time together. Featuring Singapore’s first Community Club set in a private mall, as well as a public library and an open community space spanning the size of 10 basketball courts, Northpoint City is slated to be a gathering point for the community and we see that as the future of mega-developments.
