Frasers Property moves into third and final year of its Reconciliation Action Plan in Australia

Australia Community

As a developer, we acknowledge that we play a significant role in the evolution of the urban landscape, and with that comes a responsibility to respect and actively engage with the Traditional Owners of the land on which we develop.

Frasers Property’s vision for reconciliation in Australia is to collaborate with Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on the land on which we build so that we acknowledge our nation’s history and connections to country.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) focuses on paying our respect, contributing to an inclusive and open-minded workplace culture and fostering greater stakeholder engagement at every opportunity. Our Statement to Commitment to Reconciliation with Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples included the following commitments:

  1. To build Collaborative relationships
  2. To build Respect for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples’ long and continuous cultures
  3. To create Opportunities for meaningful outcomes with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

July 2020 marked two years since Frasers Property Australia and Frasers Property Industrial launched our first RAP in Australia, which sees 59 targets. Since the launch, we made significant progress towards meeting these objectives, and we are particularly proud of the relationships that we are building and nurturing with the Traditional Owners of the land on which we build.

Key highlights

  • Opportunities: Over A$366,000 spending are channelled to indigenous-owned business, including artwork, catering and biodiversity assessments.
  • Relationships: We have invested in and built quality relationships with a number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Elders in the communities where we build and operate, across the country.
  • Respect: We have rolled out Cultural Awareness Training to all Frasers Property staff in Australia, to learn from and about the world’s longest continuous culture, and to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and their inclusive and diverse communities, are reflected in the legacies we create.

Looking ahead

Reconciliation is a long-term commitment that we are proud to be on. With our second ‘Innovate RAP’ expected to launch in January 2021, the focus will be on building genuine relationships, opportunities for partnerships and education and embedding these changes into the fabric of our business.
