MELBOURNE, 28 JANUARY 2020

Cycling can improve both physical and mental health and reduce the risk of a range of health problems1, which is why having access to safe cycling networks – close to home – is so important.

Frasers Property Australia is committed to helping promote healthier lifestyles at its residential developments and its community at The Grove in Tarneit is a good example.

The Grove’s location makes it the ideal place to reap all the benefits cycling has to offer. Bounded by Davis Creek and Werribee River, the masterplan for The Grove includes kilometres of interconnected cycling and walking paths. The paths will link the waterways to outdoor parks and play spaces, a future town centre, schools and community facilities.

The Grove is also just six kilometres from the new Tarneit Railway Station making cycling to the station from The Grove a healthier alternative to driving for train commuters.

“We know that providing ways for residents to lead active lifestyles leads to better health and wellbeing outcomes for the whole community,” says Sarah Bloom, General Manager – Residential Victoria, Frasers Property Australia.

“A big focus for us at The Grove is being able to give people as many opportunities as possible to enjoy time outdoors, taking part in activities such as cycling.

“Finding opportunities that allow families to leave their car at home, whether it’s walking or riding to school, to the shops or to the train to get to work, is really important.”

The Victorian Government’s Better Health Channel website says riding to work or the shops is one of the most time-efficient ways to combine regular exercise with your everyday routine.

It lists some of the health benefits of regular cycling as including:

  • Increased cardiovascular fitness
  • Reduced anxiety and depression
  • Increased muscle strength and flexibility
  • Decreased body fat levels

A 2019 Australian Government report, Cycling State of Play Report, says that 2.3 million Australians participate in cycling, with most cyclists enjoying the sport as a casual or non-organised activity2.

It says most cyclists are motivated by physical health and fitness, as a mode of transport and for fun and enjoyment.

“Cycling is one activity that the whole family can enjoy,” says Sarah.

“It also really doesn’t matter how old you are, as a low-impact activity there are benefits for every age group.

“As The Grove community grows, we hope that more and more people of all ages will dust off their bikes and make cycling a regular part of the routine.”

Wayne and Lois Foster and their three children, Issac, 13, Jackson and Elliott, both aged 11, moved into Frasers Property Australia’s The Grove development two years ago and are enjoying watching the new community grow around them.

For the family, part of the appeal of The Grove is the new friendships and connections they are making but the community is also providing them the opportunity to get outdoors for fitness and fun and cycling has become a key family activity.

“We cycle around The Grove as a family at least once a month, sometimes more often if the weather is nice and sunny,” says Lois.

“It’s an activity we can enjoy as a family. We love cycling because it’s also a way we can get to where we want to go faster, while at the same time providing an activity that improves our fitness.”

Lois says the family rides for up to five kilometres during outings and is looking forward to being able to ride further once construction work is all complete at The Grove.

Future plans at The Grove are expected to include a retail precinct, proposed primary and secondary schools, neighbourhood activity centre, sporting oval, medical and child-care facilities connected to parklands and waterways and the wider neighbourhood by the walking and cycle paths.

The community already has several outdoor play spaces for families to enjoy and the Little Growling Café, located next door to the sales office, is the perfect coffee stop to rest the legs.

The community is already well-established at The Grove with more than 850 land lots sold and new residents settled in. Frasers Property has plans for a further 1,780 residential land lots. There are currently a range of land lots available for sale at The Grove with prices starting from $295,500.
