The completion of Phoenix Transport’s state-of-the-art facility in South West 1 Industrial Estate, partly owned by Frasers Property Industrial, finalises one of Queensland’s most innovative and advanced 13.3 hectare industrial developments.
The project was created by Logan City Council to draw investment and jobs to the city. Frasers Property Industrial became a significant land holder and developer within the estate in 2013.
Ian Barter, General Manager Northern Region for Frasers Property Industrial, comments, “South West 1 Industrial Estate is a great success story for Queensland. We purchased an 8.9 hectare parcel of land in 2013 from Logan City Council and subsequently a further 4.4 hectares. The vacant land was originally zoned for a high-tech business park. After several discussions with Logan City Council, they agreed to rezone the land to mixed use, which proved to be an important catalyst for its success in attracting leading 3PL and manufacturing companies to the area.”
“Logan City Council saw an opportunity to change some of its unusable wetlands into what is now a meticulously designed and developed industrial estate with health and wellbeing as a key driver. It is arguably one of the most advanced in the country. We invested heavily in this area which is paying significant dividends for customers and stakeholders. Hundreds of employment opportunities have also been created for the area too,” Troy Whalan, General Manager Queensland for Frasers Property Industrial added.
“Logan is an ideal place to do business. Its strategic location between Queensland’s two biggest cities – Brisbane and the Gold Coast made the area the perfect destination to strengthen our industrial presence in the state.”
Logan City Council Mayor, Darren Power said, “When Council decided to develop the South West 1 Industrial Estate in Berrinba, we set out to create a strong pipeline of high quality, market ready industrial land that would attract investors and businesses to Logan from across the country. The construction of Phoenix Transport’s latest facility is evidence of the success of this approach.”
The Berrinba Wetlands, which neighbour South West 1 Industrial Estate is approximately 80 hectares and features 8.5 kms of running/walking tracks, basketball courts, electric BBQ and picnic areas, fitness equipment, children’s playgrounds, birdwatching platform, an undercover interactive facility and 100 nest boxes for birds, possums and sugar gliders.
National Tiles, PACCAR, GMK, Avery Dennison, Huhtamaki, Phoenix Transport and Sigma Healthcare are located in South West 1 Industrial Estate.
Phoenix Transport’s 9,999 sqm custom-built facility will be used to service the company’s expanding client base across Australia and is also close to the company’s current site in Berrinba.
Gavin McAnulty, Queensland State Manager for Phoenix Transport, comments, “The new facility will enable us to create better operational efficiencies and open up more opportunities in 3PL. Our semi-trailer fleet is rapidly expanding and the new innovative technology in the warehouse will enable us to better service our growing customer base across Australia. We also expect to save significant water and energy costs as a direct result of our 5 Star Green Star Design & As Built v1.1 rating.”
South West 1 Industrial Estate is located on Wayne Goss Drive, Berrinba, with access to major transport links such as the M1 and Logan Motorway and now comprises over 58,040 sqm of high-quality buildings. Every facility has been built to achieve a 5 Star Green Star Design & As Built v1.1 certified rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
